DBA‘s slotted rotors are acclaimed for their high performance and reduced weight, but a new police report has highlighted a less publicised advantage: durability.

Georgia‘s East Point Police Department is one of several American forces using DBA rotors on patrol cars.

One of its Dodge Chargers recently passed the 20,000 km mark with remarkable results.

Corporal Rick Kelly, Fleet Maintenance Supervisor, wrote that the DBA rotors were delivering more than four times the life of the 'OE discs' normally supplied with that model.

'With the paces the car has been through, we are very impressed with the life of the rotor thus far … and the repeatability of sure stopping (no fade).'

The Dodge Charger is mechanically similar to the Chrysler 300 sold in Australia. The East Point Police Department is using heat-treated 4000 series rotors developed and manufactured at DBA's state-of-the-art facilities near the Sydney 2000 Olympic site.

In a letter to DBA USA, Corporal Kelly says that at the 13,401 mile (21,566 kilometre) mark 'the rotors showed no appreciable wear. The thermo graphic temperature marks have not changed colors.'

'Realistically I would estimate that we will exceed 28,000 miles on these rotors.'

That's more than 45,000 kilometres – an outstanding result for a car that weighs more than 1700 kilograms without its police accessories, and is being used in hot and trying conditions.

From a police point of view, such a dramatic difference in durability does more than reduce servicing costs. It means vehicles are out and about on active duty more days per year. Officers are also safer due to the improved braking performance.

Corporal Kelly says his department expects to extend the use of 4000 series rotors to a dozen higher performance Dodge Challengers about to join the fleet.
